Breast Augmentation Las Vegas

Why Consider Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation by Plastic Surgeon Dr. Frank L. Stile in Las Vegas, NV, at Stile Aesthetics is a cosmetic procedure that is performed to enlarge the breasts for a number of reasons, including:

  • Hypomastia (small breasts)
  • Restoration of lost breast volume or size due to weight loss
  • Pregnancy or aging
  • Correction of volume or size and shape differences

Breast implants are available in a variety of shapes, sizes, and types. Implant selection, in addition to size, will depend on a patient’s preferences and anatomy, as well as Dr. Stile’s recommendations.

How is Breast Enlargement Performed?

Breast enlargement is accomplished by inserting a silicone breast implant (a.k.a. gel implant, cohesive gel implant, or “gummy bear” implant) or a saline-filled breast implant in one of these three ways:

Directly behind the breast tissue/breast gland

Under the chest muscle

The dual-plane method most often utilized by Dr. Stile

In the dual-plane method, the upper 2/3 portion of the implant is placed below the pectoralis major muscle and lower 1/3 above the chest muscle. This technique results in a breast that is not only very natural looking but also feels soft to the touch. Additionally, the breast moves in a more natural way during physical activity. Dr. Stile employs incisions for placement of these implants that heal as inconspicuous as possible, usually around the lower edge of the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple). Or in the fold beneath the breast– the inframammary fold.

When deciding which type of implant to use, patients must keep in mind that age can be a determining factor. One of the distinct differences between saline and silicone breast implants is the age restriction.

Patients must be 18 years of age or older in order to undergo a breast augmentation with saline implants and at least 21 for silicone. Existing native breast tissue, breast shape, and skin elasticity are other factors to take into consideration.

Measurements of the breasts will be taken at your consultation. Measurements of the chest wall, especially base width/diameter, will help determine the best implant style for each patient. This evaluation will aid Dr. Stile in developing the best breast augmentation plan for you. Some women may benefit from a breast lift combined with breast implants.

Before patients undergo breast augmentation surgery, they’ll have a complete physical examination. Patients who want breast augmentation surgery may be ideal candidates if they meet some of the following criteria:

  • They are unhappy with the current size and shape of their breasts.
  • Are in good overall health
  • They have lost the firmness/fullness of the breast because of weight loss, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or aging.
  • One breast is larger than the other.
  • Their breast size is not in proportion to the rest of their body.
  • They wish to restore the shape of their breasts after a mastectomy or lumpectomy.

Breast augmentation will result in increased size and improved shape of the breasts. It can also help rejuvenate a woman’s figure and help her feel more confident. The final results, where breasts look and feel natural, can be appreciated after three months. Breast implants typically last a decade or more, and patients may choose to have a breast implant revision later if needed.

The breast augmentation procedure takes approximately two hours. After surgery, patients can expect to feel chest soreness and pressure. They will be given post-surgical care instructions, and pain medication will be prescribed. Each augmentation patient will leave our office in a sports bra and clean surgical dressings. There may be some bruising and swelling for about one to three weeks.

It is recommended that patients only participate in very light activity for the first two weeks. After two weeks, patients may advance activity but must avoid heavy lifting and resistance training. Most patients experience a full recovery between weeks four and eight and may resume full activity and exercise.
