Cosmetic Breast lift surgery, also known as a Mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to raise sagging breasts to their more youthful and appropriate anatomical position on a patient’s chest. Additionally, a breast lift or Mastopexy performed by Dr. Stile will enhance the aesthetic shape of your breasts while also raising the position of your nipples and reduce the areola’s (the darker pigmented skin around the nipple) size when necessary.
Factors such as pregnancy, nursing, change in weight (gain or loss), aging and gravity can produce changes in the appearance of a woman’s breasts. As the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts often lose their shape and begin to sag. If, in addition to sagging, your breasts are small or have lost volume after pregnancy, breast implants can be inserted in conjunction with a breast lift. This can increase both the firmness and size of the breast.
Many of our patients express a desire to have the option of wearing garments like tank-tops in preference to T-Shirts without a bra, or being able to fit into a more stylish bikini-top or an alternative bra without loose skin hanging around the edges. Some patients have even expressed issues with intimacy caused by the appearance of their breasts.
Breasts of any size can be lifted, but the results may not last as long in women with heavy, large breasts. These patients may better be served by a breast reduction procedure.
There are a variety of different surgical techniques used for the reshaping and lifting of the female breasts. The procedure that will work best for you will be decided following your consultation with Dr. Stile and a careful physical exam of your breasts measuring the precise degree of sagging.
Mastopexy or breast lift procedures requires the creation of a variety of incision techniques that remove excess skin to correct breast sagging and re-shape the breasts. In many other practices these incisions may heal in a manner which leaves permanent, noticeable and sometimes unsightly scars on the breasts. This is rarely the result for patients in Dr. Stile’s practice.
Dr. Stile often uses a “No-Scar” breast lift technique in his Las Vegas practice. This procedure is a modification of the Binelli breast lift. This technique is ideal for women who need a breast lift and enlargement but wish to downsize to smaller implants. Or for those who want to exchange older implants for new ones but whose breasts may have “sagged” a bit since their last augmentation. The only incision is around the areola.

General Description of the Breast Lift or Mastopexy Procedure
This is an outpatient surgical procedure. Breast lifts are performed in our state-of-the-art operating room. Premium Surgical Services Center is a free standing fully accredited Ambulatory Surgery Center licensed by the state of Nevada. Our center is also federally regulated. We have attained additional accreditation from the Joint Commission’s ambulatory health care accreditation program with “deemed MCR approved status”. We are the only privately owned center dedicated to the specialty of plastic surgery that has both these accreditations in the state of Nevada.
The procedure is performed while using general anesthesia (patients are fully “asleep”) for comfort control. General anesthesia as well as pre and post-operative care are provided by our Board Certified Anesthesiologist.
A Breast lift surgery usually takes two to three hours to complete. Techniques vary, but the most common breast lift (Mastopexy) procedure employs an anchor-like incision along the underside of the breast. The incisions include the area where skin that will be removed, thus defining how the nipple will be relocated.
When the excess skin has been removed, the nipple and areola are moved into a higher position. The skin surrounding the areola is re-approximated down and together lifting in addition to reshaping the breast.
Some patients, especially those with relatively small breasts and minimal sagging, may be candidates for modified procedures requiring less extensive incisions. These procedures are known as “loli-pop” or vertical lifts and the “doughnut or concentric breast lift” in which circular incisions are made around the areola.
If you chose to have an implant inserted along with the breast lift, the implant will be placed in a pocket created directly under the breast tissue or one created under the pectoralis major “pec” muscle.

Recovery after Breast Lift or Mastopexy Surgery
This is an outpatient surgical procedure. After their surgery, and following a short stay in our post-surgical care unit, patients are discharged home. Generally, post-operative instructions call for plenty of rest and limited arm movement in order to speed up the healing process and shorten recovery time.
Bandages, dressings and steri-tape are applied right after surgery to aid the healing process as well as minimize movement of the breasts. These are held in place by a specialized surgical bra that is worn for four weeks.
Patients describe the pain associated with cosmetic breast surgery as ranging from minor discomfort to significant soreness. The perception of pain is a uniquely personal experience. However, this discomfort is effectively controlled with oral pain medication and muscle relaxers.
Patients can resume most normal activities not requiring lifting of heavy objects or exertion at two weeks. Full activity including exercise and resistance training can begin following the fourth week. While complications are rare (less than 1%), patients can minimize potential problems by carefully following the directions given by Dr. Stile after surgery.
