How Long Does an Eyelid Lift Last?

Blepharoplasty Las Vegas

As one of your most expressive features, your eyes are one of the first things people notice about you. Unfortunately, they’re often subjected to unwanted changes caused by time and age. If wrinkles and sagging skin are affecting your eyes, an eyelid lift may be the solution to regain a youthful look.

WHAT IS AN EYELID LIFT (BLEPHAROPLASTY)?

Also known as blepharoplasty, an eyelid lift is a cosmetic surgery that treats signs of aging around the eyes. The inevitable effects of time and gravity often lead to wrinkles, under-eye bags, and drooping or “hooded” eyelids that contribute to an aged, tired expression.

Depending on your aesthetic goals, Dr. Stile can either perform an upper eyelid lift, a lower eyelid lift, or both. An upper eyelid lift will address issues such as excess, sagging skin above the eyes and “hooding,” while a lower eyelid lift can improve under-eye bags or hollows.

Blepharoplasty tightens and lifts the skin around your eyes for a smoother, brighter appearance. Fat pads are also removed or repositioned to reduce puffiness or dark circles under the eyes.

RESULTS OF AN EYELID LIFT

Since they’re such an expressive and noticeable feature, enhancing your eyes with an eyelid lift can dramatically improve your appearance.

You can expect benefits such as:

  • Reduced wrinkles and lines around your eyes
  • A brighter, more alert expression
  • Diminished under-eye bags
  • Less drooping and sagging
  • Improved field of vision

These changes will be visible within two weeks of the surgery and will continue to improve as swelling subsides. The results of an eyelid lift usually last five to seven years, or even a lifetime. Blepharoplasty won’t stop your eyes from aging, but the benefits are long-lasting. An upper eyelid lift will likely last several years, and lower eyelid lifts rarely need to be done again.

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH AN EYELID LIFT

Dr. Stile will make incisions in the crease above each eye or just underneath the eyelashes, depending on the type of procedure you’re having. He will perform the surgery under general anesthesia, which usually only takes one or two hours.

BLEPHAROPLASTY RECOVERY

Bruising and swelling around the eyes is normal for a week or two after an eyelid lift. You can use pain medication, eye drops, and ice packs to manage discomfort or dry eyes, and you’ll need to keep your head elevated. Most people can return to work within a week.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR AN EYELID LIFT?

An eyelid lift is an excellent solution for adults that want brighter, refreshed eyes. If you’re overall healthy and want to improve excess tissue around the eyes, puffiness, under-eye bags, or wrinkles, you may be an ideal candidate for an eyelid lift. During your consultation, Dr. Stile will discuss your goals and help you determine the right procedure for you.
