Human noses come in a wide range of sizes, shapes, and forms, and they play an important role in how others perceive your face. If you feel unhappy with the appearance of your nose, rhinoplasty can sculpt and shape it to balance your other features and provide a harmonious appearance you will want others to see.
What is Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)?
Rhinoplasty, also referred to as nose surgery or a “nose job,” is performed to change the appearance of your nose. While many surgeons perform this popular procedure, Dr. Stile’s experience and eye for aesthetically pleasing results set him apart. Rhinoplasty can address concerns with your nose’s overall shape, bridge width, humps or bumps, and tip shape, among other issues.
Dr. Stile will choose a technique for your procedure based on the changes he plans to make. Each type of nose surgery has advantages, and they are used to achieve different results. As a result, your rhinoplasty can take four to six hours.
Closed Rhinoplasty
The biggest advantage of a closed rhinoplasty is that the incisions are made inside the nostrils, avoiding any visible scar. However, this method does not give the surgeon enough access to make more significant changes in shape or structure.
Open Rhinoplasty
During an open rhinoplasty, an incision is made at the base of the nose between the nostrils. The scar is typically very hard to detect when performed by a skilled surgeon. This method allows more reshaping and bigger changes to be performed.
What is Recovery Like After Rhinoplasty?
Your nose and the surrounding area, especially under your eyes, may look bruised and swollen after your procedure. You will usually have an external splint and internal packing to keep your nose stable. The splint comes off after about a week, and the swelling improves significantly after the first few weeks.
People with low-activity jobs can often return to work in two to three weeks. However, the details of your procedure and the speed of your recovery will determine when Dr. Stile approves your return to more strenuous activities, especially those that could injure your nose before it has healed completely.
What Results Will I See With Nose Surgery?
While you will see changes in your nose as soon as the packing and splint are removed, your full results will take time to evolve. You will start to see more of the look you expected after a few weeks as the swelling decreases. However, you can have some residual swelling for up to a year, so you will continue to see improvements. Since the structure of your nose does not change with age, you can expect your rhinoplasty results to last a lifetime.
