How is an Eyelid Lift Done?
September 1, 2024

Your thin, delicate eyelid skin often shows signs of aging long before the rest of you does. An eyelid lift corrects loose skin, wrinkles, and undereye bags (fullness) to restore your alert, youthful look. This procedure can be performed on the upper lids, lower lids, or both to rejuvenate your eye area more effectively than any skincare product.
What is an Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)?
Blepharoplasty is the medical term for a procedure to correct signs of aging and skin laxity around the upper and lower eyelids. If people ask you if you have had enough sleep or you feel like your eyes always look tired and droopy, this procedure can restore a bright-eyed, refreshed appearance. It can be performed alone or combined with other procedures, such as a brow lift.

How is an Eyelid Lift Done?
Dr. Stile will develop a plan for your procedure based on your unique anatomy and concerns. He uses carefully hidden incisions so you enjoy your results without a noticeable scar.
Upper Eyelid
During an upper eyelid lift, Dr. Stile makes an incision in a crease of the eyelid and extends it outward towards your crows feet. This incision allows him to tighten loose skin, smooth wrinkles, and reposition fat pads to correct puffiness and skin folds. He closes the incision with tiny sutures that are removed after a week.
Lower Eyelid
The incision for lower blepharoplasty is made along the lower eyelid or, in some cases, inside the eyelid. Dr. Stile removes or repositions fat pads to smooth puffiness and tightens the skin for a smoother appearance.
Individuals with significant hollowness under the eyes may benefit from dermal fillers or fat transfer to restore lost volume and create a smoother, more even appearance. Dr. Stile can discuss these options during your consultation.
What is Recovery Like After an Eyelid Lift?
You will leave our surgical center after your procedure and return home, although you will need someone to drive you. Sleeping with your head elevated and using cold compresses can help reduce swelling and discomfort. Most people can return to work after about a week. Attend all your follow-up appointments, and Dr. Stile will usually clear you to resume physical activities after about three weeks.
Am I a Good Candidate for an Eyelid Lift?
If you are an adult with no major health problems who wants to address signs of aging around the eyelids, you might be a good candidate for an eyelid lift. This procedure has a relatively quick recovery time, and the results can last for many years, especially with good skincare and sun protection.
Individuals with concerns about drooping brows may be good candidates for a brow lift in addition to their eyelid lift. Dr. Stile will discuss this option along with undereye fillers or fat transfer during your consultation.
