How is a Facelift Done?

Rhinoplasty Las Vegas

Your face is the most distinct part of your appearance and is essential to communication and self-expression. That’s why many of us are frustrated when the aging process diminishes our appearance and makes us look older than we feel. A facelift may be the solution to regain your confidence with a brighter, more youthful complexion.

WHAT IS A FACELIFT?

facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, is a popular cosmetic procedure to reverse signs of aging on the face. Common concerns addressed by a facelift include wrinkles and lines, loose or sagging skin and muscles, and lost facial volume.

Time, sun damage, weight change, stress, and lifestyle can all contribute to a tired, aged appearance. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Stile can use a facelift to restore your youthful appearance and help you put your best face forward. He will personalize the surgery to your unique needs and may perform a facelift in combination with other procedures, such as eyelid surgery or chin augmentation.

HOW DOES A FACELIFT WORK?

A facelift surgery works by tightening the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) layer of the face. These tissues stretch and loosen as we age, which leads to sagging. Dr. Stile will also remove excess skin and reposition neck muscles and fat.

Rhytidectomy is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia and typically takes four to six hours. Dr. Stile will make incisions behind the ears and around the hairline, which won’t be noticeable once they heal.

FACELIFT RESULTS

Within a few weeks of the surgery, you’ll be able to see dramatic, natural-looking results. A facelift has an anti-aging effect and gives you a brighter, refreshed, more youthful appearance.

Some of the benefits you may see after a facelift include:

  • A smoother complexion
  • Reduced lines and wrinkles
  • Improved facial volume
  • Less drooping and tighter skin
  • A lifted, brightened appearance

A facelift offers long-lasting results. Your face will continue to age, but these effects will be less noticeable than if you hadn’t had a facelift. You can expect your facelift to last approximately ten years. If needed, you can have a second facelift or maintain the results with non-surgical treatments like dermal fillers or microdermabrasion.

RECOVERY AFTER A FACELIFT

After the procedure, Dr. Stile will place a dressing on your face, and you’ll be able to return home with the help of a friend or family member. Bruising and swelling are normal, and Dr. Stile may prescribe pain medication to manage discomfort. You can return to normal activities after a week or two.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A FACELIFT?

If you want to improve signs of aging like wrinkles, sagging skin, and “turkey neck,” a facelift is an effective solution. Ideal candidates are healthy adults with realistic expectations. During a one-on-one consultation, Dr. Stile can recommend whether a facelift procedure is right for you.
