How Does Gynecomastia Surgery Work?

Gynecomastia Las Vegas

While men may not talk much about it, they still feel intense pressure to look strong and masculine. Gynecomastia (male breast enlargement) can cause tremendous self-consciousness and hold you back from activities you love. Despite being extremely common, this condition can make you feel isolated or alone. Fortunately, gynecomastia surgery gives you a flatter, more sculpted masculine chest that restores your self-esteem.

What is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is the medical term for enlarged male breasts. This enlargement can come from glandular breast tissue, fat, or both. The most common cause of gynecomastia is hormonal changes that affect the balance between estrogen and testosterone in the male body. These changes can be triggered by puberty, aging, certain health conditions or medications, and genetic factors. Regardless of the cause, enlarged male breasts are typically very treatable.

How Does Gynecomastia Surgery Work?

How your male breast reduction is performed depends on whether the excess breast volume comes from fat or glandular tissue. Dr. Stile uses liposuction to remove fat and sculpt your chest. Excess glandular tissue is removed through excision or surgically removing the breast tissue through a small incision. You may benefit from a combination of both methods to achieve your desired contours.

What are the Benefits of Gynecomastia Surgery?

Men who have gynecomastia surgery enjoy many benefits, often more than they even expected. Beyond feeling more confident and self-assured when you look in the mirror, you may experience:

  • Feeling more outgoing in social situations
  • More confident in intimate situations
  • Having the confidence to wear more fitted shirts
  • Freedom to enjoy activities like swimming
  • No more need to hide your chest

Gynecomastia can have a particular impact on those who engage in active sports and other activities that may involve going shirtless, but it can affect any man’s confidence. The rather unkind term “man boobs” is often used. Men who have gynecomastia surgery feel significantly better about their appearance, more confident in their masculinity, and more free to enjoy their favorite activities.

What is Recovery Like After Gynecomastia Surgery?

Your recovery process will vary depending on the details of your procedure. You can expect some soreness, swelling, and bruising in your chest, and you will have a compression garment to wear that helps control swelling and tighten the area. People with low-activity jobs can usually return within seven to ten days. Dr. Stile will clear most people to resume their exercise routine and other activities in four to six weeks.

Am I a Good Candidate for Gynecomastia Surgery?

Most men with enlarged breasts can benefit from male breast reduction, especially if the condition holds you back or affects your confidence. Good candidates are healthy enough for surgery and have reasonable expectations. People with gynecomastia caused by a medical condition may need to have this condition treated first.
