Have signs of aging around your eyes given you a permanently tired, sad, or angry appearance? Eyelid surgery can reduce wrinkles and drooping to rejuvenate your appearance.

WHAT IS BLEPHAROPLASTY (EYELID SURGERY)?

Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgery meant to improve the appearance of the eye area. Commonly referred to as eyelid surgery or an eyelid lift, the procedure involves removing excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids and tightening the muscles and tissues around the eyes. The goal of blepharoplasty is to create a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance by reducing sagging, drooping, or puffy eyelids.

Though it is most often a cosmetic procedure, blepharoplasty can also be performed for functional reasons. Severe sagging of the upper eyelids can lead to obstructed vision. Whatever your concerns and goals, Dr. Stile performs upper, lower, and combined eyelid lifts to help you achieve a refreshed, youthful look.

HOW DOES AN EYELID LIFT WORK?

Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure at Stile Aesthetics that typically only takes one to two hours under local anesthesia. Dr. Stile will make small incisions within the eyelid’s natural fold for an upper blepharoplasty or along the bottom lash line for lower blepharoplasty. He can also simultaneously address upper and lower lids for more comprehensive results.

Through these incisions, Dr. Stile will remove excess skin and fatHe may also tighten the skin and muscles for a smoother appearance. If the patient has dark circles from under-eye hollows, a fat transfer or dermal fillers may be beneficial to restore volume under the eyes. Finally, Dr. Stile will close the incisions with absorbable sutures.

RECOVERY AFTER EYELID SURGERY

Your eye area will be bruised and swollen for a week or so after eyelid surgery. We’ll instruct you on keeping your head elevated and using ice packs, and Dr. Stile may prescribe pain medication or eye ointment. Most patients return to work after about a week, though full recovery may take a few months.

EYELID SURGERY RESULTS

As bruising and swelling fade, you can enjoy refreshed, more youthful-looking eyes. You’ll see improvements shortly after the procedure, but full results may not be visible for a few months. Blepharoplasty typically lasts several years. Some people have an upper eyelid lift repeated later, but a lower eyelid lift often lasts a lifetime.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR EYELID SURGERY?

You may benefit from an eyelid lift if you have droopy eyelids, wrinkles, puffiness, or dark circles. Ideal candidates are overall healthy, without serious eye conditions, and have realistic expectations. Eyelid surgery is most often performed on patients over 35, but some patients may choose to have the procedure earlier if they have naturally hooded or down-turned eyes.
