How Does a Facelift Work?

Sun damage, stress, gravity, lifestyle choices, and weight loss dramatically affect your skin. While the skin sagging, wrinkling, and forming fine lines are a natural part of the aging process, these factors can cause premature skin laxity that can hinder your confidence.

At Stile Aesthetics, Dr. Stile uses facelifts to diminish visible signs of aging on the face. His detailed methods help patients like you achieve natural-looking results that look like you but younger.

HOW DOES A FACELIFT WORK?

facelift repositions the fat, skin, and tissue to smooth creases, remove excess skin, and tighten facial features. Dr. Stile performs facelifts on an outpatient basis, meaning you will return home the same day as your surgery. You will need someone to bring you to and from the facilities as you will be drowsy from the general anesthesia.

Dr. Stile makes an incision behind the ear and around the hairline to prevent any visible scarring and removes excess skin, tissue, and fat from the face. He also tightens the underlying structures (SMAS layer) for long-term results. After he repositions and re-drapes the skin for tight, smooth results, he closes the incisions and prepares you for departure. Most facelifts take four to six hours.

HOW LONG IS RECOVERY FROM A FACELIFT?

Dr. Stile prescribes pain medication to manage any discomfort you may experience during recovery. Some of the most common side effects during the initial healing include discomfort, swelling, and bruising. Before surgery, Dr. Stile will give you instructions about follow-up appointments, when to remove the surgical dressings, and other aftercare tips.

After the swelling subsides, you will see your results. Most patients return to work and exercise after two weeks, but your skin may feel tight for several months.

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULTS FROM A FACELIFT LAST?

Most facelift results last approximately ten yearsA facelift cannot prevent the natural aging process, but it can turn back the clock many years in one procedure. If you face continued aging symptoms, you may receive a second facelift or explore other treatment options, such as dermal fillers or microdermabrasion.

To extend the results of your facelift, we recommend moisturizing your face daily and protecting it from the sun with medical-grade sunscreen. Living a healthy lifestyle with plenty of sleep, healthy foods, and water also extends your results. If you experience any concerns about your results or recovery, please contact Dr. Stile or his team at Stile Aesthetics at any time.
