Gynecomastia refers to a condition in which a man has overdeveloped breasts. Believe it or not, gynecomastia is common among the male population. It often occurs due to  abnormally high or out of balance estrogen levels. Obesity, hyperthyroidism, poor nutrition, and kidney failure may also cause this condition.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING MALE BREAST REDUCTION

Before a male breast reduction procedure, Dr. Stile will learn about your unique goals so he can figure out the ideal technique. He’ll likely make an incision around your areola and use a surgical excision to get rid of dense breast tissue.

If you have excessive amounts of glandular tissue, Dr. Stile will likely make a larger incision. After he’s removed enough tissue from your chest, he’ll tighten the skin over your chest muscles. The entire procedure will be performed under general anesthesia in about two hours.

While you’ll likely notice swelling, bruising, and some discomfort, pain medication can help these side effects. You can likely return to work after about one week and enjoy permanent results as long as you commit to a healthy lifestyle.

GOOD CANDIDATES FOR MALE BREAST REDUCTION

Dr. Stile may recommend a male breast reduction if you’re living with gynecomastia. This is not a weight loss treatment so you should be at or close to your goal weight with excess fatty breast tissue. Male breast reduction is ideal if gynecomastia has left you feeling self-conscious and hindered your overall quality of life. If you smoke or have had gynecomastia for less than a year, male breast reduction is not for you.

BENEFITS OF MALE BREAST REDUCTION

If you have enlarged breasts, male breast reduction will reduce them. This procedure may also improve your chest contours and treat puffy nipples. It’s a great option if your breasts are lacking symmetry as it may improve your body proportions.
