Are lines and wrinkles affecting your confidence? Injectable treatments like Botox® and dermal fillers can smooth away wrinkles, helping you look dramatically younger and more refreshed. These treatments are used for different types of wrinkles so that you may benefit from one or both. Dr. Stile and his team at Stile Aesthetics are proud to help you achieve a more youthful look.

What are Botox® and Dermal Fillers?

Botox® and dermal fillers are injectable treatments used to smooth lines and wrinkles. While they are administered in the same way, they work very differently and are used for different purposes. Botox® works by preventing muscles from contracting, so it is used for conditions where muscles are overactive. Dermal fillers are used to add or replace lost facial volume to smooth wrinkles and define your features.

Botox® vs. Dermal Fillers: Which is Better for Wrinkles?

When it comes to treating wrinkles using Botox® or dermal fillers, the biggest factor is the type of wrinkles you want to address.

Botox®

This injectable treatment uses a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin. This toxin works by temporarily interrupting the signals between your facial nerves and muscles, stopping muscle contractions.

Botox® is used to treat lines and wrinkles that appear when your facial muscles form expressions. These wrinkles include crow’s feet around the eyes, forehead creases, and lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines or the 11s). By stopping muscle activity, Botox® allows the skin to relax and become smooth.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments that replace or enhance your facial volume. They either add volume with a material like hyaluronic acid or stimulate collagen production to produce results over time.

Dermal fillers are used to treat wrinkles that appear as the result of sagging skin and volume loss. If you have wrinkles such as nasolabial folds (creases from the nose to the mouth) and marionette lines (creases around the sides of the mouth), they are most effectively treated by plumping them from beneath using fillers.

Is There Any Downtime After Botox® or Dermal Fillers?

Injectable treatments like dermal fillers and Botox® often take less than 15 minutes, and most people return to work or other activities immediately afterward. There is no downtime, although you may notice some minor redness, bruising, or swelling in the injection area. These effects will fade within a few days. Your injector may give you other instructions based on your treatment.

What Results Will I See From Botox® or Dermal Fillers?

Results from Botox® usually appear within a few days and develop fully within about ten days. They can last three to four months for most people. Dermal filler results may be visible immediately with hyaluronic acid fillers or take several weeks to appear with collagen-building fillers. Some types of fillers last up to a year, while others can last two years or more.
