Am I a Good Candidate for a Breast Lift?
April 20, 2024

If you have been pregnant, lost weight, or just been a victim of gravity over the years, your breasts may not be as perky as they once were. Drooping breasts can affect your confidence and hold you back from things and clothes you enjoy. A breast lift lets you restore your firm, youthful shape and make you look better than ever.
What is a Breast Lift (Mastopexy)?
Your breasts can change in many ways throughout your lifetime due to aging, hormones, weight fluctuations, and pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you no longer love the appearance of your breasts and want to restore them to their more youthful position, a breast lift or mastopexy may be the answer. This procedure removes excess skin to lift the breasts, remove excess skin, and resize or reposition the areolas. Mastopexy can be performed alone, with other breast procedures, or as part of a mommy makeover.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Breast Lift?
Only a consultation with Dr. Stile can determine for sure whether a breast lift is recommended for you. Good candidates:
- Are in good health
- Want to improve the shape and position of their breasts
- Have reasonable expectations
- Are prepared for the recovery process and take the appropriate time to heal
- Understand what a breast lift can and cannot accomplish
If you are planning to become pregnant in the future, keep in mind that it may significantly affect your breast lift results. Women may want to wait until they are finished expanding their family before undergoing a breast lift.
Other factors that affect your long-term results include dramatic weight changes, so you may want to wait before having mastopexy until you achieve your goal weight if you plan to lose a significant amount.
How is a Breast Lift Performed?
The details of your breast lift are customized to address your needs. Incisions can be made around the edge of the areola, in a vertical line from the areola to the breast crease, or in a horizontal line along the crease. Loose skin is removed so Dr. Stile can reposition and shape your breasts. He may also resize and reposition your areolas so they point forward and look proportionate.
How Long is Recovery After a Breast Lift?
You can expect some swelling and soreness after your procedure. You will have a support bra and bandages to protect the area, and Dr. Stile will prescribe pain medication as needed. Swelling fades significantly in the first few weeks. You may be able to return to work after a week or two, depending on the extent of your procedure.
You can resume some exercises and other activities after two weeks and your full exercise routine, including lifting, after four to six weeks. You will have follow-up appointments so Dr. Stile can assess your progress and clear you to resume various activities.
