How are Dysport® Injections Performed?

Prior to receiving Dysport®, your plastic surgeon will thoroughly assess your face to determine if Dysport® is the appropriate anti-wrinkle injectable for you. During this time, your doctor will also be able to examine your face and determine the best areas for injection. Dysport® is administered through a fine needle and usually doesn’t require numbing. 

However, we can provide a topical anesthetic to the injection site to make your experience as comfortable as possible. One treatment usually takes 30-45 minutes, but this time will also be dependent on your condition. Treatments are usually needed every few months to maintain results.

Dysport® is FDA-approved and similar to BOTOX®, which is also a neurotoxin that controls muscle activity. Dysport is often used for moderate-to-severe lines between the eyebrows. Compared to BOTOX®, it’s commonly used to treat larger areas.

The best candidates for Dysport® injections:

  • Have moderate to severe lines and wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet), between the eyebrows (frown lines), and on the forehead.
  • Want to temporarily halt muscle activity responsible for wrinkling.
  • Desire a nonsurgical treatment.
  • Desire natural-looking results.

Results can be seen in 1-2 days, and maximum results can be achieved in around 10-14 days. The results will yield a youthful and natural skin appearance that typically lasts 4-6 months. Some patients have Dysport® injections paired with dermal fillers like Juvederm® or have what is called a liquid facelift.

There’s almost no downtime associated with Dysport®, so patients can go about their normal routine 20 minutes after a treatment. However, patients may be advised against lying down, rubbing the treatment area, or exercising for the first day. Common side effects are a slight stinging sensation, mild redness, and swelling that lasts a day or two.
