Otoplasty Las Vegas

As a very visible part of the body, ears that seem out of proportion or out of place can make facial features look out of balance. Otoplasty can restore this harmony by adjusting the ears’ shape, size, and position to achieve symmetry.

WHAT IS AN OTOPLASTY?

Otoplasty will reshape your ears to make them look more symmetrical and more aligned with the rest of your face. Some people feel so uncomfortable with their ears that they style their hair or wear hats to cover them, but in the hands of a professional like Dr. Stile, an otoplasty can give you back the freedom of not worrying about your ears when you prepare for your day.

HOW DOES AN OTOPLASTY WORK?

Because ears are made of cartilage, not bone, they have some flexibility: an otoplasty shapes and molds this cartilage to create the desired appearance and position. Otoplasty can also restore the appearance of ears with issues caused by injury or present from birth. In this case, otoplasty seeks to achieve a normal-looking and symmetrical ear.

Otoplasty only works on the cartilage forming the auricle, the outer part of the ear, and should have no effect on your hearing or any issues with the inside of your ear. You may need to see a different professional that specializes in the internal ear for problems like this. Cosmetic procedures like adjusting the size of the ears will not be covered by insurance, but repair of congenital ear malformations or injury-related repairs may be covered. Check with Dr. Stile’s team to find out what insurance companies cover.

WHAT IS RECOVERY LIKE AFTER AN OTOPLASTY?

You will have bandages applied after surgery to protect the area and to help hold the cartilage in its new position. You will feel some discomfort for a few days, which Dr. Stile will help you manage. While your ears heal, avoid touching them, sleeping on the sides of your head, and engaging in any activities that might put stress on your healing sutures. If the surgery has been performed on a child, they may require supervision to keep them from disturbing the surgical area.

HOW MUCH DOES AN OTOPLASTY COST?

The average cost of otoplasty can vary widely from location to location and between providers. At Stile Aesthetics, otoplasty starts at $5,850. This does not include the costs of anesthesia, medications, fees for operating facilities, and other expenses.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR AN OTOPLASTY?

By age 5, the ear has reached almost full size and development, so children as young as this age may have otoplasty if the doctor determines a need for the procedure. In general, the ideal candidate does not smoke, has no serious health problems, and can either self-manage their care or have an adult who will carefully monitor their healing process.
