Eyelid Surgery Las Vegas

Why Consider an Eyelid Lift?

One of the first things people notice about you is your eyes. Inherited family traits or the natural aging process can result in:

  • Eyelid wrinkles
  • Deep lines
  • Dark circles
  • and Puffiness

These elements contribute to a tired, sad, or prematurely aged appearance. Some people even experience a more limited field of vision due to significant hooding with age. Women often find it more difficult to apply makeup to wrinkly, excess skin in the eye area.

How is Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) Performed?

Dr. Stile may perform upper blepharoplasty, lower blepharoplasty, or a combination of both. Eyelid surgery is also commonly called an eyelid lift.

These fat pads can be selectively removed or repositioned for a more refreshed look. The result tightens drooping skin, reduces sagging, and can even help improve vision in some patients who have hooding on their upper eyelids. Plastic Surgeon Dr. Frank L. Stile at Stile Aesthetics in Las Vegas, NV will be happy to personally meet with you to discuss all your aesthetic concerns and the options to treat them.

Learn More About Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty or an eyelid lift, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin from both the upper and lower eyelids. Underlying fatty tissue (fat pads) that herniate (protrude) can produce the appearance of puffiness or bagginess.

Upper Blepharoplasty

For upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Stile will make the incision within the natural fold of the eyelid. The incision will be extended outward as much as possible in order to address the fullness and skin folds located on the outside of the upper lid.

After the incision is carefully made, Dr. Stile will remove excess fat and redundant skin. After the procedure, the incision will be closed with very small nylon sutures. Sutures are commonly removed at seven days following surgery.

Lower Blepharoplasty

For lower eyelid surgery, the incision will be placed along the edge of the lash line. This incision allows Dr. Stile to lift the eyelid skin and muscle, giving him access to the protruding fat pads. Fat pads may be trimmed or repositioned. Some eyelid skin is trimmed, allowing for the resulting lid to be smooth and taut when the procedure is completed.

A special approach/technique is used for patients with puffy lower lids but good skin tone called transconjunctival blepharoplasty. Patients with dark under-eye circles caused by a lack of fat in the area could benefit from injectable volume enhancers (fillers)  or transferred fat to add volume to the undereye area and/or cheek.

Upper and Lower Eyelid Lift Combined

With some patients, both the lower and upper eyelids need to be addressed to correct all issues effectively. When both are combined, surgery will last approximately two hours. Sometimes, blepharoplasty is paired with a brow lift for optimal results.

The best candidates for blepharoplasty:

  • Have eyelid issues that cause them to look older.
  • Have vision problems caused by droopy upper eyelids.
  • Have droopy, down-turned eyelids as a result of aging or genetics.
  • Have “bags” under the eyes.
  • Desire a more refreshed, rejuvenated appearance.
  • Desire a natural-looking result.

Patients should expect natural-looking, younger, more refreshed eyelids after their surgery. These results appear quickly as swelling resolves and may last several years. Additionally, scars will not be visible due to both their placement and the incredible ability of eyelid skin to heal.

This is an outpatient surgical procedure. Patients are discharged home after a short recovery in our accredited center. After surgery, patients can expect the eyelids to be bruised and swollen to varying degrees. Cold compresses, medicated eye ointments or eye drops, Natural Tears™, and elevating the head will minimize these symptoms. These symptoms should only last a few days. Eyelid lift recovery is usually easy for most patients, and normal light activities can be resumed within a week with full exercise at three weeks.
