Sclerotherapy is a procedure used to treat spider veins. The procedure involves injecting veins with a sclerosing solution, which causes them to collapse and fade from view. The procedure may also remedy the bothersome symptoms associated with spider veins, including swelling, burning, aching, and night cramps.
While women of any age may be good candidates for sclerotherapy, most fall in the 30-to-60 category. Those women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, may be advised to postpone sclerotherapy treatment. Although spider veins aren’t as common in men as women, sclerotherapy is just as effective in men as women.
