How is Labiaplasty Performed?

Labiaplasty can employ different techniques to achieve great results. One is surgery, which involves trimming the inner fold of the labia to make it proportionate to the outer fold. The second uses a laser to reshape and tighten the entire labia. Female genital reshaping is cosmetic by nature and can result in beautiful, lasting results. It has become one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries for women in the United States.

Labiaplasty is a vaginal rejuvenation surgery that alters the shape and reduces the size of the labia minora, also known as inner labia or “small lips.” These are the folds of specialized skin surrounding the vaginal opening. The labia’s size, shape, and color can vary from patient to patient and can change significantly as a result of childbirth (tearing and stretching), aging, and other traumas.  

Ideal candidates for vaginal rejuvenation surgery: 

  • Are self-conscious about their labia’s appearance. 
  • Have discomfort or pain wearing certain garments due to the size and shape of their labia. 
  • Experience discomfort, soreness, or tenderness during sexual intercourse. 
  • Are bothered by labia that are noticeable while wearing bathing suits or other tight-fitting clothing.

This is a procedure performed under general anesthesia. After surgery, patients recover and are sent home when stable. The procedure is minimally uncomfortable, often described as soreness. After surgery, patients should avoid sexual intercourse and strenuous activities, such as exercise, for about four weeks. Tight clothing should be avoided as well.
